Eat Healthy…Eat the Pyramid Way!
The ancient pyramids of Egypt (and the techniques used to construct them) are for the most part a mystery. That’s not the case with the Food Guide Pyramid! The Food Guide Pyramid was constructed to help consumers learn how to eat a sensible, healthy diet.
Just like the pyramids in Egypt, a strong base is essential. The base of the Food Guide Pyramid is the grain group, which provides essential complex carbohydrates. The majority of your servings each day should come from this group. The next level of the pyramid contains fruit and vegetable groups, which provide energy in the form of simple and complex carbohydrates, as well as vitamins and minerals. The milk and meat groups are next on the pyramid. These two groups primarily provide our bodies with protein, which is essential to growth and tissue repair. The top of the pyramid is the “others” category. Foods represented in this category are fats, oils, and sweets, and should be eaten sparingly.
