Get Involved

Jardine Residents' Council

The Jardine Residents' Council serves as the representative body for the complex, serving as a link between residents and staff, the department of Housing & Dining, the University and Manhattan area communitites.

Council members volunteer their time, hold bi-monthly meetings to discuss issues facing the Jardine Complex, and administer their own budget. In addition, the council has traditionally planned programs and events to promote community-including Halloween and New Year's Celebrations, and educational programming. This is a great way for Jardine residents to become involved in their community and meet their neighbors.

Global Women's Society

Events sponsored by the Global Women’s Society provide women in the Jardine Apartment Complex opportunities to come together to learn, create, develop friendship, and just have fun. The group meets each month to make a dish, complete a craft, play games, enjoy music, discover services offered in the Manhattan area, and share other cultures.

Sponsored and advised by the Jardine Staff, all women in the community are cordially invited to attend and help plan activities of the Global Women’s Society.

Jardine Tutoring Program

The Jardine Tutoring Program is sponsored by the Jardine Apartments Office and coordinated by its staff.

The tutoring program is open to all school age children who reside in Jardine, on a first come first serve basis. Children are assigned a student tutor from around the Manhattan community at the beginning of the academic year. The students and tutors meet once a week to establish a mentoring relationship, complete homework assignments, and participate in learning activities.

Neighborhood Programs

The Jardine Apartment Complex is divided into several neighborhoods, each served by a trained staff member—or Assistant Coordinator. Neighborhoods are grouped by building proximity and community is developed through programming initially planned by the neighborhood staff.

These events provide opportunities for residents of each neighborhood to get to know each other or catch up on the lives of their neighbors. Neighborhood programs have consisted of such events as: Barbeques, Picnics, Bowling, Ping Pong Tournaments, Classic Movie Nights, Pumpkin Carving Contests, and Ice Cream Socials. Residents are encouraged to contact their Neighborhood Staff for more information on upcoming events or visit the HDS Calendar.

Community Wide Programming

A tradition of nationally recognized community events is one of the most appealing parts of the Jardine living experience. Jardine staff, many times in cooperation with residents, plan at least two programs each month in which residents are encouraged to get involved. Community wide programs are designed to allow residents the chance to learn, socialize, serve and grow—all while having fun. In addition, these programs often function as a means of communicating important complex information to residents.

Events like Opening Olympics, the Health & Safety Fair, Barn Party, State Fair Trip, Cultural Community Celebration Week, and Canoe Trip are quickly listed by residents as programs they have enjoyed the most.

Information about upcoming programs can be found in the Jardine Journal, posted at mailboxes and in the wash houses, and at upcoming programs link.
