Academic Resource Assistant

Position Description

Academic resource assistants (ARAs) are student employees who provide staffing for the Academic Resource Centers provided by Housing and Dining Services. ARAs help students utilize available resources and maximize their academic success. ARAs are committed to providing friendly, assertive and effective service to students living in the residence halls and Jardine Apartments.

Requirements for the ARA Position:

  • You must be enrolled as a full-time student at Kansas State University.
  • You must possess and maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and good academic standing with Kansas State University.
  • You must complete the ARA application and scheduling form completely and according to written instructions.
  • Residence hall or Jardine Apartments residency is required for eligibility and employment.
  • ARAs are not permitted to hold another position within Housing and Dining Services (CA, RA, etc.).

A Limited List of ARA Responsibilities:

  • Monitor Academic Resource Centers
  • Regulate and track student access to Multicultural Resource Center
  • Operate technical equipment provided in academic assistance centers
  • Provide assistance to students utilizing computers
  • Perform security rounds and lock door as assigned
  • Promote the Department of Housing and Dining Services
  • Serve as an academic resource for students
  • Enforce all university and department policies in academic assistance centers
  • Provide administrative assistance to the coordinator for academic affairs
  • Assist in the administration of academic assistance programs
  • Attend all training sessions as assigned by the assistant coordinators for departmental initiatives
  • Participate in all meetings as required by the assistant coordinators for departmental initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned by the assistant coordinators for departmental initiatives
  • Serve as the first line of reference for students seeking career assistance
  • Complete room reservation requests

The ARAs report to the assistant coordinators for departmental initiatives for housing and dining Services. This position will only work out of the Derby Academic Resource Center.

ARA Timeline for Hiring

April 16: ALL ARA applications are due by 12 p.m. (noon).

April 17: Interview offers will be made to new candidates. Notification of an interview will be communicated through your K-State email.

April 21: Interviews will be conducted.

Interview Times: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Location: Derby Academic Resource Center

April 23: Hiring decisions will be made.
