On-the-Go Reusable Box Program
Reusable Take Out Box Program
On-the-Go takeout meals are available at Derby and Kramer Dining Center during all regular dining center hours using reusable green boxes to support campus sustainability initiatives.
Any customer with an on-campus residence hall All Access or Weekly 12 meal plan can participate in this program free of charge.
If a customer has a Jardine, Off-Campus or Faculty/Staff meal plan, the customer must pay $10 an academic year to participate in the On-the-Go reusable box program.
All-Access meal plan holders have 5 On-the-Go reusable box swipes available to use each week. Unused meals do not roll over into the following week.
Weekly 12 meal plan holders may use the entire balance of their 12 meals for On-the-Go reusable boxes each week or any combination of dine-in and On-the-Go reusable box swipes that equal to 12. A maximum of 2 On-the-Go reusable box swipes can be used per day.
Our meal plan week runs from Saturday morning to Friday evening.
- Customers must enroll in the On-the-Go reusable box program by filling out the waiver form. This form outlines the rules for proper usage and proper care of the reusable green boxes. Please read these carefully to ensure full compliance with this program.
- After completing the waiver form, the customer will receive an email that will outline the next steps of the process.
- The customer will also receive an additional email with the information on the waiver form that they agreed to.
- After completing the form, the customer can check in at the dining center entry. The customer must show the emailed copy of the waiver to the checker. The checker will ask if the customer has questions and will list their name and the date they signed the waiver form.
- After the checker or manager verifies their enrollment, the customer will be given a carabiner.
- You are now eligible for the On-the-Go reusable box program.
- Prior to swiping or taping your meal card, let the checker know that you want an On-the-Go meal.
- If you are enrolled in the On-the-Go program, you should already have your carabiner.
You are allotted 10 minutes to collect your green reusable box, food and beverage, then you must exit the dining center. - Go to the one serving line of your choice. Turn in the carabiner at the line to get one served entrée and as many sides as you want in the reusable green box.
- After the server hands you your reusable green box, you are able to fill your box with any self-service items like pizza, baked potato, salad and dessert.
The box must be able to close! - You are allowed one piece of fruit OR one dessert outside of your container. In addition, you can pick up disposable silverware and are allowed a disposable cup with a beverage in it.
- You must then exit the dining center. You MAY NOT dine in if you select an On-the-Go meal in a reusable green box. You are able to swipe in for a meal in the dining center and then revisit the checker station and swipe in again to obtain an On-the-Go meal to eat later.
- Please keep food safety in mind! The meal needs to be eaten or refrigerated within two hours of leaving the dining center to prevent food borne illness.
- Wipe out leftover food into a waste bin and rinse your reusable green box prior to returning it to the dining center. Do not wash food particles down any Housing and Dining Services sinks or drains.
- Return the box to a dining center within 24 hours to minimize microbial growth.
- To return the soiled reusable green box, go to the dining room entry location at either dining center.
- The box will be inspected for food and microbial growth.
- Once your box passes visual inspection, the checker will give you another carabiner to hold onto until your next On-the-Go box meal is needed.
- The checker will point you to and ask you to place your soiled green reusable box in a bin with the box's lid open.
- The checker will call a manager if your green box does not pass visual inspection to make a final determination if you need to be charged a $10.00 replacement fee to allow you to continue participating in the program.
In addition, the replacement cost for a lost carabiner is $5.00.
