Move-In Day 2013
Move-In Day, fun events welcome students to K-State
August 28, 2013 — To celebrate the end of a successful Move-In Day and the beginning of a new academic year, thousands of students gathered at Memorial Stadium during the final hours of Aug. 24 and early on Aug. 25 to enjoy free pancakes and make new friends.
The Late Night Pancake Feed was sponsored by housing and dining services, the Union Programming Council and the Office of Student Activities and Services. From 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m., students could present their K-State ID to receive great food, listen to music and play lawn games. The popular annual event was a part of K-State’s “Week of Welcome” schedule of activities and drew a crowd of nearly 4,000.
“A lot of hard work goes into Move-In Day on the part of both the families and department staff,” said Derek Jackson, director of housing and dining services. “We co-sponsor the Late Night Pancake Feed to provide students with a fun, safe way to unwind and get settled into the K-State community -- it's our way of saying, 'Welcome home!'”
Additional Week of Welcome events affiliated with the department included the 17th Street Fair, which featured live band karaoke, free food, carnival rides and more. This Aug. 27 event at Bosco Student Plaza was co-sponsored by the Union Programming Council and the Office of Student Activities and Services.
