Dining Program Earns Grant
Dining services program to be honored at Kansas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics conference
March 13, 2017 — Each March, Housing and Dining Services at K-State celebrates National Nutrition Month with a program to educate residents about the importance of healthy diets. This year's project earned the program a grant from the Kansas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Jessica Miller, registered dietitian for Housing and Dining Services, submitted details of the K-State Housing and Dining Services National Nutrition Month committee's Put Your Best Fork Forward program and won the $125 grant earlier in March.
The program features a photo contest, for which students are encouraged to take a picture of their plate that includes all MyPlate food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy. Students then post the pictures to Instagram with the hashtags #NationalNutritionMonth, #PutYourBestForkForward and #KstateHDS.
The contest will run through March 17, and winners will be announced the week after spring break. The team utilized table tents and posters throughout campus dining centers to promote their project.
Miller and fellow registered dietitian Kristi Baonga will present a poster detailing the promotional advertisements used for their contest at the Kansas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Annual Conference April 28 in Overland Park.
The grant will be used to fund prizes for 2018's National Nutrition Month contest.
