JP's Sports Grill announces student employee scholarship recipients
March 15, 2018—JP’s Sports Grill at Jardine Apartments recently announced Scott Hazelton and Elliot Schrag as JP’s Scholarship recipients for the spring 2018 semester. Employees were encouraged to apply for the $500 scholarship, which they could use toward tuition to help fund their education.
Hazelton, a graduate student in regional and community planning from Elmdale, Kansas, is a supervisor at JP’s and has worked there since 2015. He originally applied at JP’s because he wanted an on-campus job that would be flexible with scheduling and was “intrigued by the opportunity to work in a campus sports bar.”
“I have always enjoyed my time at JP’s and it's rewarding to get something back from a place I love and have given so much to,” Hazelton said.
Similarly, Schrag, a senior in civil engineering from Buhler, Kansas, was looking for a part-time job and had prior experience working in a kitchen. He was hired in spring 2016 and is currently a line cook.
Hazelton and Schrag both said they enjoy working with the people at JP’s.
“One of my favorite memories is when Chef [Allan Ortiz] gathered all of the staff together to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to me, and then gave me a piece of cake,” Schrag said. “This scholarship is a generous gift. It humbles me, inspires me and drives me. The future is bright. I hope to make the most of it.”
