Housing and Dining Services

How-Tos

Connect to the Internet

Ethernet

Ethernet is provided in all of the residence hall rooms and Jardine Apartments.

In the Residence Halls:
  • All residence halls and apartments have at least one Ethernet jack available. Older residence halls may have an inactive phone jack; make sure you are using the Ethernet jack labeled "data".
  • New or recently renovated residence halls will have Aruba in-room access points on the wall that provide both wireless and wired connectivity. The Arubas are small white boxes. The right three Ethernet ports on the bottom of the Aruba are active and provide an Ethernet connection.
  • Hubs to provide extra ports are available for check out at any time from the ResNet Help Desk in Derby 133A.
  • Please remember that personal routers are strictly prohibited!
  • After connecting the Ethernet to your computer, open your web browser and attempt to sign in to your K-State Webmail. You will be redirected to instructions on how to install SafeConnect if this is your first time connecting to the Ethernet or KSU Housing wireless.
In Jardine Apartments:
  • Ethernet is provided in all apartments.
  • Traditional Apartments should have a cable coming in through the living room window.
  • Renovated and new construction buildings should have a single Ethernet port in the living room, and may have Ethernet ports in bedrooms as well.
  • Hubs to provide extra ports are available for check out at any time from the ResNet Help Desk in Derby 133A.
  • After connecting the Ethernet to your computer, open your web browser and attempt to sign in to your K-State Webmail. You will be redirected to instructions on how to install SafeConnect if this is your first time connecting to the Ethernet or KSU Housing wireless.
Wireless Internet

Wireless is provided in all of the residence hall rooms and Jardine Apartments, in addition to other areas on campus.

  • Connect to KSU Housing; enter your eID and password when prompted for credentials.
  • If you haven't already, install the Trend Micro antivirus.
  • Open your web browser and attempt to sign in to your Webmail. You will be redirected to instructions on how to install SafeConnect if this is your first time connecting to the Ethernet or KSU Housing wireless.
Availability:
  • KSU Housing is available across the entire campus.
  • KSU Wireless is not available within the halls or Jardine.
To Connect a Game Device:
  • You may connect your device to the network using a wired connection only. Major game consoles generally do not work on the campus wireless network. Some consoles are known to have issues with multiplayer games on campus — we see this problem most with Xbox consoles. There is currently no solution for this issue.
To Connect a Smart Phone:
  • To connect on any smart phone, please simply connect to KSU Housing on the device you wish to register using your eID and password in the appropriate fields.
