Cold Weather Policies
Avoid costly damage charges this winter! Ensure that your apartment is ready for upcoming colder weather.
- Keep your thermostat in the "heat" position with the temperature set to no less than 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Turn fan on "auto." If at any point your heat is not working, contact Housing Maintenance immediately at 785-532-6466.
- Close and lock patio doors and windows when outside temperatures are below 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
Extended Absences
In order to ensure the safety and upkeep of the facility, Housing and Dining Services requires residents to notify the Jardine Apartments office when leaving your apartment for more than 5 days. Staff may conduct periodic inspections to verify the condition of the facility while you are away from your apartment.

Extended Absence Checklist
This checklist helps residents ensure the safety and quality of their living space, helps keep the facility in good condition and acts as a policy to prepare your space before departing.
All residents must complete the following when leaving for an extended period of time:
- Windows are closed and locked.
- All trash removed and perishables discarded into the nearest dumpster.
- Make sure water isn't running in kitchen sink, bathroom sink or bathtub.
- If you have an in-unit washer/dryer, remove clothing to prevent smells and mildew and leave washer lid open for air circulation.
- Leave apartment in general state of cleanliness and order, such as: clean all dirty dishes, empty the dish washer, remove excess debris and clutter, clean the kitchen and bathroom.
- All entrances locked including the balcony/patio door in hybrid, modern and highly-renovated apartments.
- Thermostat set to at least 65 degrees Fahrenheit in winter on the "regular," "heat" or auto settings. Leave the thermostat on "auto" during the summer months in hybrid, modern and highly-renovated apartments. Winter temperatures must be no less than 65 degrees Fahrenheit and summer temperatures may be set at no more than 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Turn off all lights and unplug all unused electronics. All K-State appliances such as a refrigerator and oven must remain plugged in.
