Community Questions
Is there a hall that is better suited for someone going through sorority recruitment?
We have individuals in every hall who are a part of Greek Life, so we recommend that you select the hall that best fits your needs. Historically Ford Hall, which is all female, naturally has the most students in sororities simply because of its all-female population.
What residence halls are typically used by freshmen?
Because we have individuals from all classes throughout each hall, we recommend that you select the hall that best fits your needs. Please check out the Community Spotlights on our social media for more information about each community.
Where are the all-female communities?
All female communities are located in Ford Hall (all suite-style), Smurthwaite Leadership/Scholarship House, and on odd-numbered floors of Moore Hall for the 2024-2025 Academic Year.
Where are the all-male communities?
We do not have an all-male community due to a lack of demand for one. However, all of our traditional style room types (community bathrooms) are separated by gender per wing. Some halls have two wings (one male and one female) that share a common space/lobby; others have three wings.
Where would you live next to or share a bathroom with the opposite sex?
There are two scenarios where a student would live next door to the opposite sex –
- If they are in a suite-style environment (Haymaker, West, Goodnow, and Marlatt suites) where each room has a designated bathroom.
- They are in a co-ed traditional-private rooms wing.
In the second scenario, if the room is within the co-ed environment (students share individual locked bathrooms with the opposite sex), the room selection process will indicate that on the specific room.
If there is nothing listed on the room, it is considered single-sex for the bathrooms. This bathroom-style option is only available in West Hall or Wefald Hall. In West Hall, we have one floor that is designated as co-ed (2nd floor) and in Wefald Hall there is one wing per floor (3 wings per floor exist; one all-female, one all-male and one co-ed).
In co-ed residence halls with updated community bathrooms with locking bathrooms (Wefald and West), are both male and female students assigned to the same wing or group of bathrooms?
On each of the floors in Wefald Hall, there are three wings. On each wing, there is a community pod of locking bathrooms. One wing is all-female, one wing is all-male and one wing is co-ed. In West, each wing is single-sex, with the exception of the 2nd floor, which is a co-ed floor. Co-ed rooms are labeled in the room selection process with the denotation of “co-ed” on the room option.
Moore Hall Renovations
Housing and Dining Services is excited to announce plans for renovation of Moore Hall starting in the fall of 2024. Renovation plans include updates to student rooms, bathroom upgrades, and utility systems improvements.
For stage 1 of the renovation, the B wings of Moore (rooms ending in 13-33) will close for the 2024-2025 academic year. Moore Hall A wing rooms will be open and operate as normal in 2024-2025 but gender designation for the even numbered floors will change to male designated rooms while odd numbered floors will continue to be female designated rooms. The A wings are scheduled for renovation in the 2025-2026 academic year.
Moore Hall students who want to return to Moore next year that currently live in a room on the B wing or those whose room may change gender designation on A wing can contact Housing and Dining Services occupancy staff at housing@k-state.edu or 785-532-6453. Our staff can assist students in finding another room for the 2024-2025 academic year.
