Roommate Questions
No, you do not need to have a roommate selected before room selection. When you have access to room selection, you will be able to see general information about the student(s) already assigned to the room. If no roommate is assigned to your chosen room, you should be ready to accept a random roommate at any time.
If you are wanting to explore roommate options prior to selecting a room, we have a great resource within our Resident Portal called Room Sync. Navigate to "Room Sync" on the homescreen of your Resident Portal to create a profile linked through your Facebook account and get matched with roommate options. Once you find a preferred roommate, you will need to know each other's Wildcat ID number(s) to create a roommate group.
As long as all invited group members have completed a 2026-2027 application and accepted the invitation, and the group leader has finalized the group, the group leader with the earliest contract date will select a room for all roommates. The system will automatically pull in all roommates within the group. Other roommates will still need to accept the room selection.
There is limited information listed for the other student(s) in the space. Once you select the room and are assigned with that person, you will be able to see their contact information. We always recommend contacting your new roommate before move-in to get to know them.
Yes, all roommates besides the group leader will need to accept the room assignment and meal plan after the group leader chosen the room. Meal plans can request a change through the Resident Portal by selecting the "Request" tile on the homepage. You can also view your room assignment in the Resident Portal by visiting the "View" tile on the homepage.
Contact the main Housing and Dining Service office if this applies to you for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. Email the main office at housing@k-state.edu or call during business hours at 785-532-6453.
