Residence Hall Move-Out
It's almost the end of the academic year and time to plan for Move-Out!
All residence hall students are required to move out at the end of the semester. The halls officially close at noon, Saturday, May 11.
If you are participating in commencement activities this semester, please contact your assistant/community coordinator for specific instructions.
To prepare, Housing and Dining Services recommends the following:
- Gather packing materials such as boxes, bins, totes, wrapping paper, etc.
- Take home any larger or un-used items (futons, fridges, storage containers, etc.) before finals week.
- Identify your finals schedule in your course syllabus or on the university's webpage. Residents should plan to depart no later than 24 hours after their last final.
- Make plans with family or friends if you need assistance checking out of your residence hall.
- All of the keys issued to you at the beginning of the year must be returned at check-out. If you do not have your room keys, stop by the front desk to order new keys.
- Attend your community meeting with building staff.
- Change your mailing address for any packages and services (Amazon, Target, magazines, etc.). HDS will collect your forwarding address for mail forwarding purposes. Your address can also be changed with the United States Postal Service. This change does not work for UPS or FedEx.
- Change your "local" address on KSIS.
All students are required to sign up and complete a check-out appointment. Check-out appointments must be scheduled no later than the day prior to check-out. Note: time slots are based upon staff availability and frequently fill up quickly. At the time of appointment, the following must be completed:
- All furniture and furniture parts must be accounted for in the room. If the beds are lofted, push the desk and dresser underneath.
- Take all trash and recycling to the outside dumpsters.
- Completely clean the room including vacuuming, sweeping and wiping all hard surfaces such as drawers, cabinets, dressers and desks. The front desk has cleaning supplies (sprays, towels, vacuums, trash bags, etc.) available to check out.
- Close all windows.
- Set the thermostat to “auto.”
- All personal belongings must be out of the room at time of inspection.
At your scheduled appointment time, proceed to your residence hall's front desk to begin the check-out process. Failure to arrive on-time may result in an improper check-out charge. Staff will complete a room inspection and will only record the condition of the room. Communication about the review of the room will be sent to the student's K-State e-mail account.
Residents can modify their check-out appointment up to a day before their scheduled appointment by returning to the check-out page and selecting a new time. Note: Appointments are based on staff availability and available spaces may change as students sign up.
Any damage, key or improper check-out charges will be applied to the resident’s KSIS account and will be visible on the June bill.
Questions about the check-out process may be directed to your assistant/community coordinator. Students participating in commencement activities should contact their assistant/community coordinator.
To help with traffic conditions, HDS recommends the following:
- Pack all of your items first. Then, once packed, move your vehicle to the front of the building and load all your items.
- HDS has a limited number of carts to use. We strongly recommend bringing your own cart or dolly.
- Do NOT park in meter spaces unless you pay the meter. Meter spaces will be enforced during the move-out period. However, you may temporarily park in spaces near your building to load your vehicle by placing the e-mail confirmation on your dashboard.
