Residence Halls Checklist

Step 1: Complete the Residence Hall Application

The residence hall application will be available to complete beginning at 3 p.m. (Central Time) on December 7 each year.

Students can then complete the application and submit the $230 application payment. This amount consists of a $30 non-refundable processing fee and a refundable $200 initial payment. Applications will not be processed or considered complete until the initial payment is made*. A verified K-State eID and password are required to complete this process. If you have questions or concerns about the application payment, please contact the Housing and Dining Services office for assistance.

*The date and time a student completes the residence hall application will determine their place in line for the room selection process in March or April.

Step 2: Explore Your Options

  • You can compare costs at a glance with our residence hall cost sheet.
  • This does not secure your room assignment; it is an opportunity to view what exists in the residence halls. We advise that students have 3 halls and 3 room types in mind prior to room selection.

Step 3: Choose Your Experience

Residents who are enrolled in a Residential CAT Community and Honors Housing will begin to choose their living experience in March. All other new residents will begin to choose their living experience in April. You will be notified through your K-State email in March to log in to your Resident Portal to view your selection time.

  • After selecting a room and a meal plan, students will know the exact cost of their room and meal plan.
  • Review the contract that is part of the application process on the contract-at-a-glance webpage for information about cancellation policies.
  • Contract changes can be made inside the Resident Portal until July 1. These include changes to hall, room, roommate(s) and meal plan.
  • We recommend getting in touch with your roommate(s) to get to know each other and coordinate what to bring.
